Say Goodbye to Breakup Blues and Make a Killer Comeback

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lawrence chapter.

Whether you ended it or he did, everyone knows that breaking up isn’t a walk in the park for anyone. And just when you think it can’t get worse, you realize you go to a small school and there is just no way to escape that ex. If the thought of sharing a campus with him is making you queasy, it’s time to remind yourself that there was life before him and there is certainly life after him, so it’s about time to start living it. Plus, there’s no better way to get the sorry jerk back than looking and feeling great post-split. So here’s a fool-proof plan to get you back out there in no time looking and feeling better than ever!

#1 Breakup Blues:
Put down the tub of ice cream. Move away from the chocolate, cookies and all other fattening breakout inducing junk food. Otherwise, you really will have something to cry about that’s much more important than a stupid boy- your health. Looking good starts with feeling good. If you’re going to max out, go for something healthier.

Killer Comeback: A good friend of mine gave me some great advice the other day. When you go to Andrew Commons try filling up 75% of your plate with veggies (raw and/or cooked). Add a piece of chicken breast, if it’s not over-salted, and a glass of water and you will surprisingly find yourself not as motivated to go back for a second serving.

#2 Breakup Blues: While we’re on the subject of better health, there is no better motivation to get in your best shape ever than after a particularly bad break up. Often times in a long-term relationship we tend to get too comfortable and slack on our health and fitness regimens. It’s vital that you are always consistent with these, but don’t worry– it’s never too late to start!

Killer Comeback: If you didn’t have a fitness routine before, now is a great time to start. Combining cardiowith light toning and yoga for a smoking hot body and newfound peace of mind. Plus, now you’re completely ready to shamelessly invest in some sexy new outfits for those nights out on the town. Think short. Think tight.

#3 Breakup Blues: Your old perfume reminds you of him. We tie in scent very closely with our memories, so that perfume you always wore with your ex will be a constant reminder.

Killer Comeback: Look at that old perfume as a perfect excuse for you to check out the awesome Sephora in the Fox River Mall. It might sound silly, but scent is a major sensory trigger. Change it up with a scent you can associate with the fabulous new you!

#4 Breakup Blues:
Even though you might be excited for a fresh start, don’t do anything too drastic. Especially when it comes to your hair. Your first thought might be to go for a completely new hairstyle, but give yourself at least a couple weeks to think about it. Remember: A great new look might be the perfect thing right now, but it needs to be a look that works for you. High post-split emotions might cloud your otherwise better judgment.

Killer Comeback: For now, stick with a trim, recolor and moisturizing treatment for healthy beautiful hair that’s still so you, just revamped!

Above all remember that we’ve all been there. Breakups are always rough and aren’t made any easier on a small campus, so hold your head high! That means don’t indulge in the gossip, stalk him on Facebook, contact him in any way and absolutely do not call him back when he inevitably regrets his decision. Who knows? You might have even forgotten his name by then. After all, these days you’re irresistible and it’s only a matter of time until everyone takes notice.
