The future of shopping lies far from the posh windows of Fifth Avenue or the glossy pages of Vogue. Online retail sites like Polyvore now allow users to design digital fashion collages, called “sets,” that can be shared through other social networking devices such as Facebook and Twitter. Members can pull images from ad campaigns, designer apparel collections, and accessories and then personalize their collage with added graphics or text. As a bonus, users can easily purchase the products included in their design by clicking on the individual images.

Critics have been raving about this site for a while now, so I finally decided to give in and see what all the hype was about. As a devoted stalker of international fashion weeks and just about every fashion blog out there, I was amazed to see the vast selection of apparel, handbags, and shoes Polyvore had to offer. First, you choose from over 1,000 templates (or create your own if you are feeling particularly bold) and then search the sidebar for designers, themes, colors, or any other words to help create the mood for your collage. Next, simply drag and drop your favorite images into your template and add your customized touches such as text or extra designs to make your collage complete.
