This One’s for the Boys

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lawrence chapter and does not reflect the views of Her Campus.

My Corporate Finance class – like many of the economics classes I take – is almost entirely comprised of guys. I don’t have a problem with it; in fact, I like being able to talk to a variety of Lawrentians that I don’t hang out with on a regular basis. Plus, those guys offer a different perspective that I just don’t have as a girl. Today was no different.

One of my guy friends jokingly asked me, in other words, if it was “too girly” to regularly check Lawrence’s Her Campus™ page. Although he was kidding, the joke did reveal a truth to me: Guys may feel like it is “weird” to read content from a website targeted at girls. And the part about the website being JUST for girls is not true. Although I told my friend this, I’m not sure if I convinced him.

So now is my time to do just that for him and maybe you – the Lawrence man, who just may be reading this article – that Her Campus™ Lawrence is here for you too.

First off, thanks for visiting Her Campus™ Lawrence. Whether you came to check out your friend who is this week’s Campus Cutie or to read a catchy article, I hope you stop by even more often. The website is called Her Campus™, but there are so many articles that touch on the college life that we BOTH live. From our college community to the relationships we have with each other to the parties we both attend – these are topics we can both relate to and want to talk about.

And even though we do focus a lot on a girl’s perspective of college life, that doesn’t mean we don’t have you in mind. We want to know what you think about the dating scene here or why it’s easier (or harder) to meet girls on such a small campus. Even your thoughts on a “girly” style article may lead more interesting one. Yesterday I heard a guy say “all girls try to look stylish by wearing leggings, all girls wear the same thing.” That stuff is interesting to us because sometimes, as girls, we don’t know what you are thinking! And we want to know what’s going on in that head of yours! So read, post, and tell us girls the things that you wish we knew.

If you think about it, reading Her Campus™ might be just as girly as reading your girlfriend’s Cosmopolitan, which isn’t a girly thing at all. You may want to jump in and say that you don’t read Cosmo, but just stop – we all know the truth. If it’s there and no one’s looking, the “100 Hot Sex Tips” are just as interesting to you as the girl that subscribes to the magazine. And it may be funny for you – the guy – to see what kind of advice the writers offer to girls on “How to Make Him Love You” or “What His Favorite Date Spot Says About Him.” The same is true on here. Browse, see what perks your interest, and then comment!

Lastly, this is a fun website. We all are busy with homework, planning for the future, and worrying about a lot of stuff. This is the place to talk about what’s on all of our minds and get a fresh perspective on it. This is Her Campus™, but remember that Lawrence is OUR campus.

Annie Kaiser is a senior economics and government major at Lawrence University. Happily born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Annie also has been called a "nomad" by her friends. In the past two years she has lived on both coasts, spending a year at school in Claremont, California and living in Georgetown for a summer internship with a political web-blog in Alexandria, Virginia. She played Varsity basketball and soccer throughout college, and has decided boxing will be her go-to workout after her collegiate athletic retirement. Annie's favorite activities include dining in fine restaurants, debating about politics, memorizing the presidents in order, painting, keeping up with celeb gossip, seatfiling at award shows, making lists of interesting words, and reading classic novels. She can not get enough of Jack Johnson music, new challenges, and Chuck Bass. Her motto: put your mind to it, and do it.
