Ever wonder how Gwyneth gets those signature long, blonde locks to look glossier than the cover of Vogue? Or how Gisele keeps her casual waves looking fresh and healthy after a long week of strutting the runways of Milan? The secret ingredient, argan oil, has traveled all the way from the southern region of Morocco and has transformed the hair of celebrities and socialites across the globe.
Â
Moroccan Oil, the collection responsible for developing the amazing line of styling, finishing, and conditioning products for the US and UK, infuses each bottle with pure argan oil that specialists claim repairs, strengthens, and enhances all hair types. About a year ago, my hair stylist, Jim, was really pushing the Moroccan Oil line on me, and I reluctantly bought a bottle of the Original Oil Treatment, fearing that it would eventually be tossed into the reject pile along with my other fifty “miracle” hair products. At $40 per bottle, this mystery serum was definitely not cheap, but Jim’s recommendations had never let me down in the past (i.e. talking me out of getting the Beckham bob of 2009).
Â
The first time I used the oil treatment, I was shocked at how thick the consistency was – picture yourself putting an enormous dollop of maple syrup on your beloved tresses and imagine my anxiety. Also, when a box says that the product “facilitates movement,” one can’t help but get a little skeptical. But, despite my apprehension, I blow-dried my hair as usual and was amazed when I saw satiny, voluminous hair magically appear in the reflection of my mirror. The packaging on the Moroccan Oil Original Treatment claims that it “revives hair, strengthens and conditions, protects against UV ray damage, and reduces drying time,” and I can honestly admit that it fulfills all three of these promises. As someone with naturally very curly hair (shh!) that has been damaged overtime with incessant straightening and flat-ironing, this product repaired my dry split-ends over the span of just one month of use. Also, my hair felt light and lustrous, contrary to my initial prediction of the oil’s thick consistency, and my hair dried more quickly without an ounce of frizz. I have been a Moroccan Oil convert for just over a year now and have yet to find a better product line to tame my Medusa-esque mane.
In addition to the Original Oil Treatment, the collection also has expanded to include styling serums, curling creams, hair spray, glimmer shine sprays, shampoos and conditioners, as well as intense hydrating masks. All of the Moroccan Oil products are sulfate, phosphate, and paraben free, yet another incentive to invest in this fantastic line. All in all, this product line, especially the Original Oil Treatment, has been my favorite beauty collection of the year, and I highly recommend it to everyone. Plus, you can thank me when people around campus start mistaking you for Gwyneth or Gisele…
