Laurier Brantford’s First-Ever Musical

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Laurier Brantford chapter.

Laurier Brantford’s first-ever Musical Society will be premiering Legally Blonde on January 25.

The show will run from 7-10pm at Brantford Collegiate Institute. Tickets are available at U-Desk, online and at the door for $10.50.

“We’ve been started since the end of September; it’s definitely like a lot of practicing,” says director, Mila Menna.

Menna has a strong passion for the arts. She grew up in taking drama classes and participating in theatre programs. When she came to Laurier Brantford she was shocked to learn there was no theatre on campus.

“I really felt like I needed a strong knit group that you get within a theatre environment,” said Menna “it is so unique and special.”

This led her to create Laurier Brantford’s Musical Society during the 2017-18 school year.

Legally Blonde is about a young, wealthy fashion merchandising student Elle Woods, who is crushed when her boyfriend, Warner Huntington, breaks up with her. He says he needs more a serious woman. Encouraged by her sorority sisters, Elle decides to enrol in Harvard’s Law School to prove to Warner how serious she can be.

“I appreciate the role I’ve been given and it’s completely different from my own personality.” said Haedan Reid, who plays Elle Woods.

Robby Thompson, who plays Warner Huntington, enjoys the escape that theatre brings him.

“When life is stressful you can just separate yourself from that and come do theatre and it’s really refreshing.”

Thompson sees the cast and crew as a big family as they have spent countless late nights rehearsing.  “Who else do you want to spend time with until midnight on a weekday?”
