Your Next Netflix Binge Watch: The Babysitter’s Club Returns!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lasell chapter.

Calling all Babysitter’s Club fans!

Get ready to see what your favorite sitters are like when faced with the challenges teenagers face growing up in 2019!

Netflix has just revealed that they will be releasing a 10 episode show based on the series. Although we are not sure yet when this will be released, everyone, including author Ann M. Martin, is thrilled about the premiere. There has already been a previous series and a movie based on the books, but this series will be placing the characters into 2019 and seeing how their stories from the 1980’s adjust to this decade. The issues that they will be facing include divorce and peer pressure, issues that seem timeless, and especially prevalent in today’s society.

It is also an important time to showcase this series because of female empowerment. This is an issue that is very important and very real in society today, and it was important to the girls of the Babysitter’s Club as well, since they have a business that is all female-run. It seems like this is the perfect time to be putting this show out there for all to see. It could also spark the minds of younger girls, to inspire them that they can do anything they set out to do.

Growing up, I was a huge fan of these books. My grandmother had kept all of the books from when my mother and aunt were children, and when it came time, I was able to read all of these books and learn from the valuable life lessons that the girls from the Babysitter’s Club had shown. They also made me feel that I could do anything, as long as I work hard for it. Not to mention, they also taught a lot about responsibility, which is another important trait everyone needs to have.

I am very excited for the series to come out and I cannot wait to watch it! I hope everyone takes time to watch and learn from it, as the issues these girls face could occur to anyone of any age, and send positive messages about hard work and determination, and especially following your dreams.
