It’s the second semester of my junior year and things are definitely starting to ramp up. The homework, the exams, the projects, the internship, it’s all piling up at the same time into a burning ball of fiery badness. Instead of wallowing in a bundle of sadness, burrowing myself under the warmth of my electric blanket, I am writing about something that brings me joy: card games. Below this very charming paragraph depicting my most recent sorrows, I will be listing some of my favorite card games to play, some of which can be enjoyed solo. Enjoy!

Set (Solo or Friends)

I discovered this game last semester when my close friend randomly brought it from home. It’s a pattern recognition game, where each card has a specific shape with a different color and pattern. If you’re into matching games, then Set will be a great game for you. You can play this solo or challenge your friends.

Uno (Friends)

Personally, I don’t feel like I need to say too much about Uno. It’s the literal classic, the O.G., the one and only, the game that will *always* ruin friendships. I love Uno because I already know how to play it, it’s not complicated, and it’s genuinely fun.

Spit (Friends)

This is an old one for me. I remember playing this at my day camp back in middle school; very intensive tournaments broke out between camp friends, with my friendships left broken forever. The main structure of this game is that two decks of cards are used, each person has their own cards, and there are two piles between each other. The piles will have one card facing up, and you can use any cards in your hand to put down either a card that is one value higher than the one on the pile or one value lower. Whoever gets rid of all of their cards first and slaps one of the piles wins.
