Thoughts We All Have When We’re Sick

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lasell chapter.

Being sick is undoubtedly the worst part about this season. Whether it is just a common cold, or the flu, it is a miserable experience that we all try so hard to avoid.

Before you are even sick, it seems like everyone around you is coughing, sneezing, and throwing their germ infested tissues everywhere. All you see is sick people around you and you just want to avoid everybody. In college it is especially hard to stay away because we all live in such close quarters and are around each other all the time. You think your best bet is to just quarantine yourself in your room until the disease seems to pass.

But eventually it happens, and the first sign of sickness appears, whether it be a sore throat, stuffy nose, fever, etc. You feel so helpless at this point because you know you are getting sick and there is nothing you can do about it, the germs have already gotten to you. Even though you know it’s pretty much inevitable at this point that it’s just going to get worse. You have a tiny bit of hope that if you drink a ton of water and orange juice, try to rest, and take all the medication you can find that you can stop it.

The inevitable has happened, and you get even worse. Here come the sleepless nights, annoying symptoms, snotty tissues, and everyone around you (who are now getting better) avoiding you and your germs. Being sick is miserable and it always seems to come at the worst time. It is so frustrating because you feel like you did everything you could to avoid it, but somehow it still happens. It’s hard to accept that you are officially sick when you really don’t want to be, but eventually you have to start doing whatever it takes to make yourself get better.

If you’re lucky you have friends who will take care of you and make sure you get the proper care and rest that you need… at a safe distance.
