Singer-Songwriter Teddy Geiger Announces Transition

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lasell chapter.

Late last month, singer-songwriter Teddy Geiger announced to fans via instagram that they* were in the process of transitioning from male to female.

Geiger, who rose to fame with the hit single “Confidence (For You I Will)”  in 2006, replied to a fan’s comment on their Instagram. The fan politely asked “tell us, why do you look different lately?” Geiger replied, then posted a screenshot of the comment.

“Okay.. because u asked nicely…I am transitioning. I started talking about it with a couple of my close friends and family about a month ago and it’s given me the courage to start the process. I feel like the next step is to tell y’all. So here goes. Love it or hate this is who I have been for a looooong time. I love u guys. Talk to you sooooon byeeee.”

Geiger’s friends, including Tyler Hilton and Shawn Mendes, who Geiger has written hit singles for, including “Stitches”, “Mercy”, “Treat You Better” and “There’s Nothing Holding Me Back,” showed love in the Instagram comments. Geiger also wrote “Little Black Dress” and “Where Do Broken Hearts Go” for One Direction and starred in 2008’s The Rocker alongside Rainn Wilson and Emma Stone.

*Author’s Note: Geiger has not yet specified what pronouns they prefer, so in this article I use gender neutral “they”.
