Shane Dawson Releases Eight Part Docuseries on Jake Paul

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lasell chapter.

Shane Dawson has been the latest subject of controversy in the YouTube world the past few weeks. His docuseries on Jake Paul has been ongoing for just about a month, with the last episode uploaded last week. Shane has sparked worldwide outrage among other YouTubers and fans alike. He has released videos investigating Jake Paul and whether or not he is considered a “sociopath.” People have been calling him out for giving YouTubers with bad reputations a larger platform to be able to speak their “truths” and come back from their faults. Many have wondered why Shane does not spotlight positively represented YouTubers, when they do more for the community than people like the Paul brothers, especially after Logan’s scandal at the beginning of this year with the Suicide Forest video. Others have been glad Jake has had the chance to be heard by a different audience, where he can show who he really is and be honest for once. Shane even has help from YouTubers who have been involved with Paul at some point in his career, different people who have been associated with Jake Paul in some way, shape, or form. This includes ex-girlfriend Alissa Violet and other former members of Team 10. Shane asked them personal details about Jake, trying to dig deeper into the possible theory of Jake Paul being a sociopath.

Shane goes very in-depth while investigating Paul. He asks personal questions that people have been wondering for years about the drama surrounding Team 10 and past and present members. Some newer members like Jake’s girlfriend Erika Costell were interviewed for the series, as Shane tried to get all angles of Jake’s life. Costell really put some things into perspective about Jake and his life growing up. Before Jake was fully interviewed by Shane, Shane had the opportunity to sit down with Jake’s ex-girlfriend Alissa Violet and discuss things such as the abuse charges and what he was really like in the midst of their relationship. Jake gives Shane a tour of the Team 10 house and has the chance to meet the newer members. Around the final two episodes, we finally see Jake himself being interviewed by Shane. This moment throughout the series really sheds some light as to who Jake Paul is. I feel as though he was open but definitely was hiding some things. It’s clear to me that he’s not a sociopath, but I’ll leave it up to you to decide. What is your opinion on Shane creating the series? Did you change your mind about Jake in the end?
