Stand-up comedian, Sarah Silverman, is known for biting wit and satirical humor to tackle tough issues such as racism, sexism, and religion.
In a recent interview on HBO’s “Real Time” with Bill Maher, Silverman defends her stance on abortion and pro choice:
“A human face to this side that they only know as ‘people who want to murder babies.’ And meanwhile it’s goo. It’s goo that they’re so worried about. And they’re born, and it’s ‘you’re on your own, slut’, ” Silverman said, commenting on how when women decide or are guilted into not getting an abortion, it is often difficult taking care of the child once it is born.
Silverman admits that she has never had an abortion, however that will not stop her from fighting for women to make their own decisions and choices about their own bodies.
From my perspective, I agree with Silverman and her stance on abortion. Women should have the right of deciding what they want to do with the “goo” that is inside them. If a woman does not feel comfortable or ready to take on a responsibility of having a child, I believe that she should by all means have the ability to decide what the best choice is for her without anyone else’s opinion interfering.
Earlier this past year, Silverman showed her support for these women and helped put together a fundraiser in Texas. This fundraiser brought women on a 10-hour trip from their homes to get affordable and safe abortions.
