Recently, I went to go see Love, Simon at a movie theater near campus. I’m not usually someone who actually goes to the movie theatre to see a feature film. Oftentimes, nothing catches my interest or I don’t get around to see previews since I’m not an avid cable TV watcher, but this was something I just HAD to see.

The movie itself was wild, captivating and all around entertaining, but most of all it was honest. In this day and age, we need that. There are so many movies that paint some sort of façade about what coming out should be like and for many it isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. In Love, Simon, the world just about crashes down when he is outed against his choosing and he is left to pick up the pieces.

We see the main character, Simon, in many different forms after his secret is out. Some of it can be a bit devastating to watch because it all seems too real. More people are met with disbelief and resent after coming out than not and Love, Simon deals heavily with this. Many people in the theater were audibly shedding tears, I even shed a few tears and I can only name about two other movies that had ever made me cry.

Overall, I would recommend this movie to everyone I know. Whether it be someone struggling to come out or even to someone wanting to gain knowledge about how hard it can be, this movie has a piece anyone can take away from it. It is so worth it.
