Review of Inauguration Day Outfits

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lasell chapter.

The 2021 presidential inauguration was a much-anticipated event, to say the least. What couldn’t have been predicted were the classy and snazzy outfits worn by the various political figures that attended the event. Below I have listed my favorites and their best qualities.

1. Bernie Sanders

Easily the most iconic outfit of the bunch, Sanders’ basic warm winter jacket and mittens took the internet by storm. People wasted no time in sharing their love for this one with memes and appreciation posts.

2. Barack and Michelle Obama

The former President and First Lady did not disappoint with their coordinated monochromatic outfits. Michelle’s choice of burgundy was both elegant and interesting, with a statement belt tying the whole ensemble together.

3. President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden

The couple stepped out with a similar approach to the Obamas’.  Jill wore a bright teal ensemble and Joe wore a classic black look paired with the same teal-colored tie. The color choice went hand in hand with the rhetoric of healing and unity discussed throughout the President’s speech.

4. President Joe Biden’s Grandchildren

Each of Joe Biden’s grandchildren stepped out in separate monochromatic looks. This trio stayed in sync with similar simple-cut coats layered over matching turtlenecks, and all three of them looked absolutely stunning.

5. Amanda Gorman

Not only was her poetry top-notch, but so was her clothing. Gorman broke free of the monochromatic theme that others at the event chose without sacrificing style. Gorman’s clothing had simple silhouettes, yet she created depth by adding several bright and bold colors. The soft yellow, loud red, and lively green were harmonious and were a similar vibe to the other spring and earth-like colors worn by the Biden family.
