Ariana Grande just recently dropped her sixth studio album Positions and fans couldn’t be more excited! With the release of “thank u, next” in February of 2019, people weren’t expecting a new album so soon. Grande began by dropping the single “positions”, and announcing the album’s release a few days later. This album definitely holds tightly to her pop roots, but she really incorporated a lot of R & B into this album as well. The album also holds a few collaborations with artists like Doja Cat, The Weeknd, and Ty Dolla $ign.

Track one is titled “shut up” featuring a catchy chorus and beautiful vocals from Grande. This song begins with an orchestra sound before the lyrics even start, and it continues throughout the song. Personally, I can see this song being used all over TikTok at some point.

Track two titled “34+35” is definitely a more sexual song that is a bit more direct than some of her tracks on past albums relating to sex. A little laugh is the first thing you hear when this song begins. You can feel Grande let loose and really be herself in this song, as it is just a feel-good song.

The next song is “motive”, featuring Doja Cat, and it is the third track on the album. This song is yet another fun one that you can just dance to and forget about all of the craziness of 2020. Doja Cat really shows her talent in this song and is the perfect addition to Grande on the track.

Next up is “just like magic” which is track #4 on the album that’s all about self-love, manifestation, and the law of attraction. A lyric from the song, “I get everything I want to cause I attract it”, can be seen as a bit of a parallel to her last album wherein “7 Rings” she sings, “I want it, I got it”. This song also takes me back to “successful” on her album Sweetener, but in a new and improved way.

Track five “off the table” features The Weeknd and is all about her past love, Mac Miller, who passed away in 2018. She’s singing about wondering if she will ever be able to love again after losing him. “Ghostin” from her thank u, next album was about Miller as well but this new song comes from a more hopeful place and talks about Grande maybe now being able to move on.

“Six thirty” is next on the album and gives off chill vibes. Some fans believe this song feels like her past Christmas songs she’s released.

Track seven titled “safety net” features the artist Ty Dolla $ign. This song gets super personal but feels very calming at the same time. Ty Dolla $ign fits perfectly into this song and the two of them together create such a beautiful song that is very relatable and one I personally would listen to over and over again.

“My hair” is the eighth song on the album that is full of R & B. The jazzy chorus and the nineties vibes this song gives off are *chef’s kiss*. At the very end of the song, Grande sings in a whistle register showing off her pure talent.

“nasty” is up next on the album and just like “34+35” begins with a little laugh. This mature song has a very smooth beat making this song a must to listen to on repeat!

Track 10 titled “west side” samples Aaliyah’s “One in A Million” song which was released in the nineties. This is yet another chill and calming song that fans are loving.

Track 11, “love language”, gives off a little bit of Michael Jackson vibes. This is full of jazz and again has that nineties R & B feel. Even when you think the song is over it stops for a moment and then picks up with a new sound to close out the track.

“positions” is at track 12 which was released as the first single off the album and is the title track. This is definitely a personal favorite for me and has already found its way onto TikTok while also starting a new trend. The music video released with the song suggests themes of women empowerment which I love!

Track 13 titled “obvious” is super raw and open as the rest of the album. She brings a very sweet and romantic feel to the song while confessing feelings to someone that should be “obvious”.

The final track on the album is titled “pov”. This is one of the slowest songs on the album but is full of pure love that is the perfect way to close Positions. “pov” is one of those songs that may just make you cry.

Grande’s vocals on the album blow me away yet again. After each album she has released I have always felt that it has been better than the one before. This album took her talent to a whole new level and is absolutely worth a listen.
