Our Acne Product Secret: CeraVe Resurfacing Retinol Serum

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lasell chapter.

If you have acne, like most humans, you know the struggle of reducing acne and acne scarring. There are so many products on the market that looking for a good serum seems to be a struggle. After trying out numerous acne products, finally, we have a holy grail product from an unsuspecting line… CeraVe.

CeraVe is a dermatologist recommended brand that is mostly known for its hydrating products like lotions and hydrating facial cleansers. But their line holds a hidden gem, their CeraVe Resurfacing Retinol Serum. This product sells for $19.99 on Ulta and is on the pricier side for people new to drugstore skincare. But you can’t beat the price for such a quality product. The serum includes retinol oil, licorice root extract, three ceramides, and Niacinamide acid.

CeraVe recommends applying this product every day, but this can be used every other day for similar results if using other acids in your routine. When you start this product I suggest using it a few days and slowly building up the amount you use. If you have sensitive skin CeraVe warns that irritation can occur if you use a large amount. In my experience with sensitive skin, this product has not caused any irritations or rashes.

I have dry skin and have nit had an issue with this formula thought it was formulated for oily skin. If you have dry skin keep hydrating your skin as normal to reduce the chances of this product causing dryness. It is important that when you are using this product, apply sunscreen every day to avoid irritation because retinol oil makes the skin photosensitive.

When I apply this product, it helps to reduce the look of acne and they seem to be stopped in their tracks. Despite not fully preventing acne, it has helped to reduce the size and helped to reduce the scarring that is caused by acne. It was drastically reduced the amount of acne on my face and helped to make my skin smoother. Despite not being labeled as an anti-aging product, retinol online products can be used as an aging preventive.

This product checks off all the boxes for me. Don’t expect this product to fix all your problems in a week, give it a month and you won’t be disappointed.
