Studio Ghibli is a Japanese animation studio based in Koganei, Tokyo, founded in 1985 by animators and directors Miyazaki Hayao and Takahata Isao, and producer Suzuki Toshio (Bauer, n.d.). This Japanese company has made many iconic animated films that have captured the attention of many different countries, not just Japan. I personally love these movies; they’re so comforting, and the storylines are so interesting and unique to each main character depicted. So, here are three different Studio Ghibli films that I love!
1. Ponyo
Ponyo is just a classic, and it is the first Studio Ghibli film I’ve ever seen! The bright and vibrant colors are so attractive to me, the way the music flows with each scene, and the dialogue are all things that tie it together really well.
It is really different and has its own unique personality in the film. The plot is really interesting and appealing to me, and how dedicated the goldfish princess was to becoming human to be with the boy.
2. Spirited Away
The intro of this movie is really eerie at first and extremely captivating to me. I love how it looks like they are about to have a good family time after finding the empty village, but it turned into something else entirely different. The way the story is played out is so cool, and the ending was so dramatic yet beautiful.
Something I really loved was the different worlds, and it almost felt surreal or dream-like watching it.
3. Howl’s Moving Castle
This one was so cool, I love the different plot twists and how much action there was as well. I loved the romance aspect to it and how magical it was; the colors are so soft, and the plot was super interesting as well.
This movie was something right out of a children’s book, if that makes sense. It was just super fun to watch!
