Megan Pillsbury, 20, is a very busy girl. As a junior, she is double majoring as a fashion design and production along with business, she also works part time over the weekends and participates in Lasell’s drama department’s fall musical every year. This year, she has a starring role in Lasell’s production of “Nine”. But no matter the issue or amount of work, she always manages to find a way to push through and be successful in everything she endevors. This fashionista is on her way to be a very successful woman in the world of fashion.

HC: As a fashion major you must face many problems most student’s don’t. What is the hardest problem you’ve ever had to overcome in your major?

MP:Sometimes it’s hard balancing all the work that needs to be done, because a lot of the work we do is making things. There are not too many classes in the program that is just a reading and learning kind of class; fashion design and production majors learn by doing what their major is–designing garments, accessories, mood boards, etc. and producing those items. This takes more time than it is usually thought to take, so many assignments get crammed.

HC:What made you want to be a fashion major in the first place? What do you hope to do with this major when you’re older?

MP:I first got into fashion by helping out with costumes for my high school theatre, and doing that for 3 years made me want to actually design and make the costumes for each character. That’s what I’m really pursuing, Costume Design for Theatre. And since I had no idea how to sew, I became a Fashion Design and Production major.

HC:Outside of the classroom, you’re involved in the fall musical performed by the school. What do you like the best about being in the play?

MP:Being in the musical every fall gives a different experience every time, because it’s with a different cast and they end up becoming like family every time. My favorite thing about performing in general is that you can tell a story while being a different character and having a different personality. The adrenaline rush before, during, and after a performance is like nothing else I’ve experienced, the feeling is so unique.

HC:You’re an extremely hard working student, what advice would you give the incoming freshman for next year about college?

MP: I would tell the freshmen not to waste their time doing stupid stuff. If they wanna go out and party once in a while, that’s fine, but as a wake up call I would tell them that they are in college for a reason: to study hard, make good grades, and then graduate and find a good job to better themselves in life. If they slack now, they will slack later, and the work will just pile up. And this time, their parents aren’t here to push them to work harder, it’s all drive from within.
