Mary Jo

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lasell chapter.

This week’s pick of Campus Cutie goes to a underclassman, more specifically a sophomore, by the name of Mary Jo Fisher.  At first glance one would never know that this petite framed 19 year old woman whose height tops out at a whopping 5’2” started Lasell College’s first Women’s Rugby Team her freshman year.  As an avid rugby player for her high school located back in her home town of Cheshire, Connecticut she was determined to continue her love of rugby in college.  Another interesting fact about Fisher is that she almost loves chocolate ice cream as much as she loves rugby.

Although Fisher has to keep her sweet tooth in check sometimes, her sweet personality is never at bay.  Her schedule is constantly full of which desserts to make for her dear friends’ birthdays that fall during any given month, she doesn’t think twice about doing those acts of kindness it is just part of who she is.

This year as a residence assistant (RA) for the first floor of the Woodland Hall she uses her caring advice and wisdom to guide her freshman residents safely out of as much trouble as possible.  Many Woodland residents, females and males alike, have expressed that Fisher is their favorite RA, anonymously of course.  Fisher takes her position as an RA and as a role model for students seriously even staying up until 5 a.m. on some occasions.  Even with her lack of sleep she manages very easily to maintain great academic achievement at Lasell College. Fisher is striving to achieve a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science because she said, “The human body in interesting to me, I spent the entire summer learning about how to exercise properly and how it can affect my body.”  Her interest in Exercise Science fits perfectly with her love of rugby.

The women’s rugby uniform leads one to believe that Fisher’s outfit of choice was derived from that.  She said, “I hate pants, that’s why I never wear them.  I wear shorts for as long as I possibly can no matter how cold it gets.”  Fisher’s outfit of choice consists of shorts, any top, and currently bright colored sneakers compared to the rugby uniform which again consists of shorts, a jersey, and the only difference being cleats instead of sneakers.  So watch out for a petite young woman with bouncy blonde curly hair on the rugby field because she is not afraid to tackle!
