As March rolls in, my favorite tradition of International Women’s Week joins us. I decided to interview my suitemate, Megan Curley, for this year’s interview. She is a junior, majoring in Hospitality and Event management at Lasell University. She’s a fan of Formula 1, has the best sense of humor, can stand her ground, and is a lovely person to know.

Jade: What’s a moment you dreamed of that you now have accomplished?

Megan: Having a solid friend group. Growing up I didn’t have a good bunch of friends. Especially a good core girl group. Maybe because I was shy before.

Jade: What’s the number one place you want to visit?

Megan: That’s pretty hard to choose. I really want to visit places like Switzerland, Greece, Italy, and France.

Jade: Girl I said one place.

Megan: I guess Europe is one place then haha.

Jade: What’s a rewarding moment you had this school year?

Megan: After being at home and online for a whole year, it is rewarding to finally come back to campus.

Jade: What’s your favorite thing about your major?

Megan: I like how there’s a lot of different career paths. It’s international! I like that there’s different cultural understandings around the world too. For example, in Dubai, they have good hotels and tend to be very welcoming. I like how it can also be small too. You can work at a small boutique hotel or run your own company. It’s also not a boring business degree. I’m having fun studying and taking these courses. There’s some people in my major that are good people. Obviously not everyone, but a nice group of people, for example my roommate Laurel.

Jade: What’s your favorite Megan-fulling-activity?

Megan: My favorite me-time activity is showering. I love showers and having my music being played in the background. I like painting my nails or giving myself a spa day too. I also enjoy shopping with gift cards, that way I don’t have to spend my own money lol.

Jade: What has your industry taught you that you have found very helpful?

Megan: A couple of things. First off, you have to keep work and life separate. When it comes to interacting with guests you have to maintain that same kindness. You never know what someone is going through. Treating someone as if they’re having their worst day is a good method. Treat someone how you would want to be treated. When people are having their bad days, and say hurtful things, try to not take it personally. My industry has definitely helped me gain patience with other people. It also taught me how different people are when they are vulnerable. Hospitality also shows me how to be a generous person. Especially when you can tell when someone’s being genuine or not.

Jade: I know we make fun of you for talking about F1 all the time, but what got you into F1?

Megan: Over lockdown, I watched “Drive to Survive” on Netflix and I have been hooked on it ever since!

Jade: What’s a short-term goal you are working on now?

Megan: Drinking more water.

Jade: Strawberry milkshake-flavored water doesn’t count.

Megan: Yes it does.

I’m grateful to be surrounded by beautiful women like Megan. International Women’s Day is a great day to appreciate wonderful women and their significant contributions to our everyday lives. Megan’s nurturing and powerful character impacts the lives of our group and I. I am grateful to have her as a friend and for her loving energy. Thank you for letting me interview you Megan!

Te amo!
