Boston has gotten an almost record breaking amount of snow this year. The MBTA shut down, schools have closed, and the people of Boston have been asked to be extra careful when outdoors or on the road. One (of the many) negative side effects of all of these snowstorms are the icicles.

Although they can look beautiful hanging off of roofs, icicles can be very dangerous. When the temperature is below freezing but the sun is shining, the melting snow turns into long clear icicles. And with all of the snow that we have gotten this winter, there are icicles everywhere, and they are dangerous!

Besides having a professional remove the icicles, there are a few tips for staying safe while they are hanging around. The first tip is to never stand under icicles. Obvious, yes, but a falling icicle can be fatal. Stay far away from the sides of buildings, or anything with icicles hanging off of it. Never climb onto buildings or roofs, and do not put ladders against buildings where it may cause the icicles to fall. Stay safe and warm!
