I got the Weverse notification by ILLIT literally as I was on my way to buy the I’ll Like You (GLLIT ver.) because it was always sold out when I went to buy it before. I was on the train when I got the notification, and I tapped instantly. ILLIT has given us two quality comebacks already this year, so I was really excited and surprised to see that they’re still not done! Of course, they have not released a full album yet in their entire discography, and this new release is not a full album either. It’s called NOT CUTE ANYMORE, and it’s their first single album, meaning it’s an album purely comprised of singles that they will release in the buildup toward the album drop. From the Track Motion that they posted on Weverse, there seems to be only two singles in this album, meaning only two new songs. But honestly, I cannot complain as they’ve already released “bomb” and “Toki yo Tomare” this year.
The concept for NOT CUTE ANYMORE is very interesting because the one word that everyone can agree to describe ILLIT with is “cute.” I was honestly a bit worried that they would stray very far from their group concept and try to be more mature or sexy, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Lorewise, I think this release might be leaning more into the SUPER REAL WORLD that has been referenced in previous albums. To me, that world has some uncanny, dreamcore, backrooms-esque aura to it that would suit the concept of not being as cute as other albums. I hope that NOT CUTE ANYMORE is going in that direction! Honestly, I can definitely feel that vibe from the videos and images that ILLIT has been uploading on Weverse and Instagram.
So yeah, I’m super excited! I already preordered the Weverse ver. of the album, and I desperately want the Little Mimi ver. because the dolls are so adorable. I can’t wait for the drop on November 24th!
