How To Personalize Your Outfit in a Professional Setting

It was only a few years ago that I was able to start embracing the opportunity to dress how I liked for my college classes. Before that, what I wore to school was dictated by twelve years of unfair and very sexist dress codes. However, those few years of freedom might soon be up, for both me and so many others heading into the professional work world. Whether a job requires you to wear a uniform, or just a stricter set of dress code rules, there are still many different ways to personalize those outfits without breaking a dress code.

One way to individualize your outfit is with jewelry. Appropriate types of jewelry can always depend on what type of work you do, but your jewelry choices can always be reflective of your occupation. For example, as a teacher, I always love to find earrings that give off education vibes, such as globes, pencils, and little composition notebooks. If you look on sites like Etsy, you can almost always find super specific jewelry.

Another way to personalize your look is with different hair styles. Obviously the number one thing to think of is safety, as some jobs definitely require your hair up. Incorporate fun hair ties and clips, and if your job allows it, hair color can really make your hair feel more like it’s reflective of you and your personality.

One last way to make your look feel more like you is with your shoes. This might not always be an option for certain jobs, but if you can wear your favorite sneakers, or add in a little pop of color in any work appropriate type of shoe, go for it! Being able to pick your shoes not only can add style, but can also add a level of comfort to your work day.
