How to Handle the Stress of Deadlines Before Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lasell chapter.

When you’re in need of a break, it can be hard to persist and push through your last assignments. Here are a few tips to minimize procrastination and help you finish the first half of the semester strong before Spring Break!

  • Always have a plan
    • Of course, something unexpected might come up, but planning out when you’re going to do your projects and how long they may take will help keep you on track. You can plan accordingly and have everything set to go to be prepared and in a less stressful situation!
  • Give yourself buffer time
    • Check the actual deadline of an assignment and schedule your deadline before then. Then if it takes longer than you anticipated or something comes up, you have a little extra time.
  • Do the hardest thing first
    • To avoid feeling that lingering anxiety about a hard project, start working on that first. The smaller, easier, things can probably wait if you already know how to do them. Take care of the procrastination while you have time to do it!
  • Don’t multitask
    • Focus on just one thing and you’ll get it done faster- most people can’t pull off multitasking effectively. Mark things one by one off a daily to-do list to help keep on track with deadlines.

Stick to these tips and you’ll see success, even after the break is over! Creating new habits can be a challenge, so don’t be afraid to ask for help making a plan if you need it.
