As a college student, it can be hard to decide where to spend your Spring Break. You may also be debating whether you should go home or spend your money traveling somewhere different. This all depends on your budget, and if you need to save more or less than the people you are going with.

It is important to decide who you want to spend your Spring Break with. Which friends are you able to spend long periods of time with? You should also know who likes to do the same types of activities as you. For instance, if you are a night owl and enjoy going out, then you may want to spend your break with people who also like those sorts of activities. However, if you are the opposite, it may be more difficult to travel with people who like to go on adventures because you may end up spending money on things you do not wish to do.

Some things that I have been keeping in mind and occupying while planning my own Spring Break to Florida are the cost of transportation, where to stay, and food. If you know someone who either lives where you want to go or has family there, it does not hurt to ask if you can stay with them. This could end up saving you a lot of money. For instance, my old roommate’s mom has a home in Florida so we are all staying there together. Airbnb can also be a great place to look for housing, and can often be cheaper than hotels or resorts.

As far as transportation, if you have to take a plane to get where you are going it may be hard during this time of year to find inexpensive options. However, ordering your tickets at the beginning of the week can be much cheaper than on a Friday or Saturday. Also, flying out on a Tuesday or Wednesday can be less expensive than later in the week. The only thing to keep in mind with this is that it may cut down the time you can spend away. If transportation is an expense you are unable to spend, having fun locally, within the city, or back home can also be a lot of fun.

Food-wise, it is smart to not eat out for every single meal, as that will add up greatly. Alternatively, you might want to consider cooking a couple of meals wherever you may be staying. Breakfast can be a very easy and simple meal to make, and it can be a fun bonding experience for you and the people you are with. If you are staying somewhere warmer, you can also easily form a nice picnic lunch to take to the beach or park, including fruits, salads, and sandwiches. Buying groceries to make your own food can end up saving you hundreds of dollars on your vacation. The brightest side of this is that you can then use that money towards more exciting activities with your friends or family.

All in all, no matter where you end up, Spring break is very much needed and can be made into an exciting week. Whether you are catching up on your sleep at home or going someplace away from school with your friends, you are bound to have a nice, relaxing time.
