No matter how you’re attending school right now- remote, on campus, or a little bit of both- we have a lot more time on our hands because of Covid. It leaves us with so much more time to relax in between classes with our favorite shows and movies! True crime documentaries are an absolute must for anyone that uses Netflix or Hulu religiously.

Here are some must watch true crime shows and documentaries on Netflix and Hulu:

Evil Genius: The True Story Of America’s Most Diabolical Bank Heist

This limited series on Netflix takes you through the complex mystery of the Pizza Bomber case of 2003 and is an absolute must for true crime lovers. This series is also a personal favorite.

The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann

Another limited series from Netflix explains Madeleine McCann’s disappearance in great detail. This is recommended to watch on the weekend or with extended free time- this national cold case is hard to turn off.

Who Killed Little Gregory?

Compiled into a limited series on Netflix, it goes back to one of France’s biggest cold cases. Similar to The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann, it goes through the whole case and all of the negative media attention the family suffered from. This series is also easy to get hooked on.

Amanda Knox

The Netflix documentary on Amanda Knox is all about the American college student who, while studying abroad in Italy, gets falsely convicted of murdering one of her roommates, Meredith Kercher. The documentary features interviews with Amanda personally and gets the unfortunate story from her perspective.

I Love You, Now Die

A docuseries on Hulu about the case of Michelle Carter. This is another personal favorite.

The Case That Haunts Me

This Hulu show features real-time police detectives and their most memorable cases.

The First 48

The A&E show is also on Hulu, showing the first 48 hours into real homicide investigations across the country. This show is definitely recommended to those who take a special interest in the field of criminal justice!

An American Murder Mystery: Scott Petersen

The national case of Scott Petersen on Hulu. There are also a couple of other titles having to do with the Scott Petersen case.

An American Murder Mystery: Casey Anthony

The national case of Casey Anthony on Hulu. Yet another personal favorite of the HC team.

Kids Behind Bars: Life or Parole

A show on Hulu that documents men and women were sentenced to life in prison as minors. The SCOTUS made a decision in 2017 that limits juveniles from getting life sentences. Because of this ruling, the people in the show got to appeal their cases as they were serving life sentences from their teenage years.

Jodi Arias: From Lust to Murder

The case of Jodi Arias on Hulu. Arias’ case isn’t as widely known as Casey Anthony or Michelle Carter surprisingly, but this story is a must-watch.

Hunting Jon Benet’s Killer: The Untold Story

This Hulu documentary dives deeper into the case of Jon Benet Ramsey and the hunt for her killer. It’s similar to Madeleine McCann and Little Gregory as it’s another nationally known cold case.
