Ready for the next best Netflix binge? Netflix just released a British dark comedy-drama called The End of the F***ing World, based off of Charles Forsman’s comic book series, and it is EVERYTHING.  The series starts off to introduce Alyssa, a rebellious girl who just wants to fall in love, and James, a possible psychopath who just wants to kill someone.  Crazy, I know. It then follows them as they run away together and get themselves into tons of trouble (like a modern day teenage Bonnie and Clyde).

The series starts a little slow and artificial.  First off, they meet, go on a few dates, and then decide to run away to find something better than what their tiny towns and small lives have in store for them.  After a few episodes, though, at a stranger’s house, sh*t gets real.

After Alyssa deals with sexual assault and James finally gets to kill someone (also quick to realize he is not actually a psychopath, might I add), the pair are quick to run off and away from the cops, going as far as changing their identities, hot wiring cars, stealing money, and meeting up with Alyssa’s deadbeat dad. The two even end up going their separate ways for a bit, only to realize that they should’ve stayed together all along.

The ending was so fast paced and genuinely authentic, I found myself staring at my laptop with my mouth wide open the entire time.  Everyone knew they were going to be caught by the police (that was inevitable) but the ending was so poetic and significant to each character.

It leaves room to wonder if there will be a second season, and there has been rumor to one being in the works. Since the first season was so good, I’m not sure it can be topped.

So to conclude, yes, I absolutely recommend this show, but there are a few triggers to keep in mind before deciding to watch or not.  Only a few episodes are gory, but the rest is just a huge twisted teen love story, which I can’t get enough of.

End of the F***ing World can be streamed on Netflix now.
