Dressing for the In-Between Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lasell chapter.

It’s that time of year again! Whether it’s the transition from summer to fall, winter to spring, or whenever the weather does a complete midday turn around, many of us feel trapped in a fashion catastrophe. Here are some tips on how to survive the transition months, and the puzzle that is mother nature.

  1. Bring a Light Jacket

Your mom was right about this one. A light jacket can be useful for those cool mornings, chilly nights, or any overly air conditioned building. Leather and denim are timeless, and serve as great investment pieces.  For a more athletic look, brands like Champion, Nike, and Adidas are serving windbreaker-chic hybrids, perfect to casually throw on. You don’t have to shell out tons of cash either—thrift shops are havens for retro styles.

  1. Don’t Be Afraid to Mix Seasons

If it can feel like summer and winter in the same day, than you can dress like it. Mixing pieces across seasons is the epitome of dressing in transition.  Pairing heavy boots with a skirt, or a summer blouse with a full-length pant can satisfy all temperatures.

  1. Go With the Flow

Your fabric flow, that is! With the 70’s making a huge comeback, now’s the perfect time to wear your flowiest fabric. These high-waisted palazzo pants are perfect for this type of weather. The lightweight fabric allows you to feel the breeze, while keeping you covered. Your aesthetic can lean towards a certain season depending on the color garment you choose.

  1. Wear Double Duty Pieces

Make your outfits work overtime. Tying a sweater or flannel around your waist can add dimension to your look, while serving as an extra layer.  With this two-in-one look, you won’t need to worry about remembering to pack a sweater.

  1. Fall Back on Athleisure

Ah, athleisure, the safe haven of fashion.  If all else fails, a savvy workout look can keep you cool and comfortable, without committing you to a summery outfit. Keeping within a color scheme and adding accessories can elevate the finished product by tying the pieces together.

By using these tips to dress for the weather, your outfits will be both fashionable and comfortable! Using staple pieces and layers keeps you from freezing in the morning and sweating by mid afternoon!
