Day in the Life: Freshman Studying Fashion Media & Marketing

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lasell chapter.

Welcome to HC Lasell member’s day in our lives! We are all going to be taking readers through what a day in our life looks like as busy college students. Our writer, Julia, will share what it’s like being a freshman at Lasell University and studying Fashion Media and Marketing. Keep reading to find out what a day in my life looks like here at Lasell.

Thursdays are typically a very busy day in my life, but also very fun and filled with excitement. I start the day off by waking up around 8 am. I grab some breakfast (usually a waffle with some raspberries) from the dining hall, and then I get ready to begin my day.

At 9:30am I have my Modern Science and Technology class where we learn about current events, create experiments and test out hypotheses and theories that can be applied to the real world.

Next, I head to my 11:00am which is the Fashion Consumer course. This is a favorite class of mine because it is a fashion-focused course. We learn about the consumer decision-making process, how to market to different customers, and how technology, social media, and other external factors affect how and why we buy what we buy.

Once the class wraps up and I have finished my note-taking for the day I head to my third and final class of the day at 12:30pm. This is my Retail Innovation Lab class, also known as Studio1851. I was invited into this course at the end of my first semester, and I have already learned so many useful skills and gained valuable experiences that will help me in the future. Studio1851 is a student-run retail store on campus. Students like myself who are part of this team take care of all aspects of running the store as a business. We do graphic design, buying, social media, website development, shipping, visual merchandising, and more. Every week there is always a new project for us to take on. I look forward to my time collaborating with this dedicated and hardworking team of students.

When this course comes to an end I finally head to the dining hall to grab some well-deserved lunch around 2pm. I usually end up eating and relaxing for about an hour, then heading to the Studio1851 store for my shift. Working in the store has been a great experience thus far, and there is always something to do.

Tackling my homework is next on my list after work. Luckily, on Thursdays, I don’t have too much homework to do because I only have one class on Friday.

Later on in the night, I grab dinner with friends and then head to dance practice with LUDT (Lasell University Pulse Dance Team). Recently, they have been holding classes on Thursday nights from 7:30-8:30pm. Some of my favorites I have taken so far have been hip hop, dancercise, and heels classes.

To end the day I walk over to 1851 with some friends to grab snacks and dessert from the market and then hang out in the Arnow Campus Center. Even during these strange covid times, attending school at Lasell University has been such a great experience.
