Day in The Life: Commuter

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lasell chapter.

Welcome to HC Lasell member’s day in our lives! We are all going to be taking readers through what a day in our life looks like as busy college students. Our writer, Yalines,  is going to take you through what it is like being a commuter.

Everyone is different, therefore everyone has different perceptions of life. Since we live our lives every day, we don’t notice how some things may be interesting to others. Here’s a day in my life, a commuter student at Lasell University.

Monday, March 15, 2021.

7:15 am: I wake up and get ready for the day. Shower, brush my teeth and get ready for the day. I get dressed and make my favorite iced coffee (half a tray of ice cubes, Coffee Mate French Vanilla creamer, Dunkins brand iced coffee original blend, and some Hershey’s caramel syrup. Try it, it’s delicious.) I pack my lunch and my backpack and make sure I have everything for my day.

8:10 am: After I’m all set and ready, I throw my lunch and backpack in my car and drive to campus! Lasell is about 30-35 minutes away from me, (with barely any traffic that early in the morning). I turn on a podcast, my favorite one at the moment being Crime Junkie by audio chunk, and listen to it for the drive.

8:40-8:45 am: I get to campus and park in front of the Science and Technology center, since all of my classes are there. I head in and hang out with my friend Miranda and we drink our coffees and chat a bit before our first class of the day.

9:00 am: We go upstairs to the third floor and begin our chemistry lab. Depending on the assignment, we can be there for an hour or an hour and a half. Today, our lab was conducting an experiment on finding the constant equilibrium to a solution. Me and my lab partner and good friend Alyssa, work really hard and make sure we have our data complete.

9:40am-10:00 am: After the lab, I and Miranda go to one of the study rooms in the STC. We hang out, do homework, and eat lunch while we wait for our chemistry lecture to begin. Today I brought homemade burritos for me and Miranda me to have! They were really good, and our friend Alyssa came to hang out with us and helped me with my next Her Campus article.

12:30 pm:  Alright, halfway done through the day! Me, Miranda, and Alyssa, all pack up and get ready for a chemistry lecture! Today we learned about acid-base equilibria and took notes down. I’ll spare the details, but it was a lot of note-taking!

1:50 pm: And with that, a chemistry lecture is done! We have a 5-minute break in between chemistry lecture and chemistry recitation, a class where we do a worksheet on what we just learned and apply it to our own work.

2:00 pm: We get into groups, Miranda, Alyssa, our friend Connor, and I get our worksheet done in a breeze!

2:30 pm: With that, all my classes are done! I hop into my car and head home, see ya next week Lasell!

3:10 pm: And just like that, I am home! I get home and take a nice breather, I make a snack and drink some water, and scroll on TikTok for a bit to relax!

4:00 pm: After getting a chance to unwind, I began to tackle my assignments. I first begin with getting my math homework done and getting started on my online chemistry homework. I usually finish the whole thing, so I don’t have to worry about it for the rest of the week.

5:00 pm: After my homework is done, I begin to fill out my planner for the week, assigning which days I should do which assignments so I have my week planned out.

5:10 pm: After getting a majority of my work done, I go and hang out with my mom and help her prepare dinner. Tonight we had quesadillas, which were awesome. We sat in the living room and watched the news and talked for a bit, going over our day.

6:30 pm: I go to my room and begin to read Stephen King’s book, The Outsider. It’s a really cool thriller, and I have already read it, but re-reading it makes me catch details I missed the first time!

7:45 pm: Around this time, I began to do my skincare routine. I put on a facemask, redo my nails if I need to, and begin to unwind for the night.

8:10 pm: I change into my pajamas, (yea I know it’s so early, but they are so comfortable!), and get into bed. I usually have my laptop in bed with me, so I begin editing my article for Her Campus. I tinker around on social media, do a little online shopping, and proceed to watch my favorite anime at the moment, Jiustu Kaisen, on Crunchyroll on my laptop.

9:30 pm: Around this time, I begin to look over which anime I need to catch up on and go on Discord to talk to some friends. We talk about all kinds of things and offer great anime suggestions.

10:00pm: With that all done, I turn off the lights and get ready for bed, excited for the next day!

Hello there! I am Yalines Medrano and I am a Forensic Science major at Lasell University with the class of 2024. I am from Peabody, Massachusetts and I love to read, watch anime, and hang out with friends! I am so excited to be involved in HER Campus!
