The Best Skin Care Routine to Survive the Cold AF Polar Vortex Weather

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lasell chapter.

At this time of the year, for those of us living in cold weather environments, it can be hard to maintain nice skin. Here we rounded up the best seven tips to make your skin less dry this winter.

1) Drink lots of Water!

  • Staying hydrated is key to keeping your skin from getting dry in the winter and it also helps to keep your skin clear.

2) Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize!

  • Facial cream is essential for dry skin. I suggest doing it day and night.  I find it is best to use before you put makeup on in the morning, if you wear makeup. It is good to put it on after the shower, if you shower at night, or after you take your makeup off. Finding an oil free lotion is also good if you have oily skin.

3) Vitamin E

  • Vitamin E is really good for your hair, skin, and nails. There are plenty of foods with vitamin E, but you could also look into taking a vitamin E supplement.

4) Use A Moisturizing Face Mask

  • There are a ton of different sheet masks that have vitamin C, E, or coconut oil that are really good for dry skin. You can find some at Target, Ulta, and drug stores that are only a few dollars.

5) Coconut Oil

  • Coconut Oil is really good for dry skin or dry hair. Applying before going to bed and letting sit overnight is a useful method.

6) Don’t Take Hot Showers or Baths

  • Hot water is not a friend to dry skin as it breaks down the lipid barriers in the skin, which decreases moisture.

7) Exfoliate

  • Use a light exfoliate scrub to get rid of the top layer of dead skin cells and expose newer healthier-looking skin.
