Almost a year ago, I wrote an article after being introduced to the wonder of free library cards and the app, Libby. After getting a free digital library card for the Boston Public Library, I downloaded Libby and immediately began browsing their online book selection. Libby has been a game-changer for me in terms of reading. I’ve had access to many titles, from books I’ve wanted to read to even a few discoveries. I’ve enjoyed using Libby, and when I learned of a new library through the app, I couldn’t resist.

While scrolling through TikTok, I came across this video from user @hannahsbooked about the Queer Liberation Library. Their purpose is to curate a collection of LGBTQ+ books and resources easily accessible to all. I knew immediately that I wanted to sign up for a library card, and I did exactly that. The process was simple – I filled out a quick form and within a few days, I had another library card to add to my collection! Once I connected my card to Libby, I gained access to tons of queer literature spanning various age ranges and genres. From memoirs to fantasy, romance, and even children’s books, there are countless titles available to borrow. I spent who knows how long scrolling through the endless list of books and saving the ones I was interested in. It felt so affirming as a queer person to see books not only representing myself, but books discussing all sexualities, gender identities, and even their intersections. I cannot imagine what this library means to other queer readers.

I, of course, could not resist checking out a book. I’m the chaotic type of reader who reads multiple books at once, so I had no problem adding another to the stack I’m currently juggling. I chose You Exist Too Much by Zaina Arafat, which I had heard nothing but incredible reviews about. I’m currently about a quarter through, and it’s already a contender for my top books of 2024.

I am so excited to have discovered the Queer Liberation Library, and am looking forward to reading even more of the books in their collection!
