Hi everyone! My name is Emalee, I am a second-semester senior at Lasell University majoring in Fashion Merchandising and Management and minoring in Communications. I am also the President of Her Campus at Lasell and a campus community management intern at Her Campus! I am also the President of another club on campus called Newman Society. I have a part-time job and grades have always been super important to me! Alright enough about me, now let’s get to the anonymously asked questions from Lasell students!

Question 1: How did you know you picked the right major?

Answer: Fashion has always been something I have been passionate about since I was a little kid. I know lots of students who picked something they have always been passionate about. The fact that Lasell lets you take classes in your major your first semester was really helpful. Right away I was interested in the fascinating classes and amazed at how qualified the faculty was.  I also know some students who in their first year were not entirely sure what they wanted to do, so they took various classes on different majors they were interested in. You can always get a minor too if there is more than one career you are interested in!

Question 2: How does one balance getting good grades, a part-time job, being in a club/sport, and have a social life?

Having good time management skills and trying your best not to procrastinate. The best tip I have for not procrastinating is putting your phone on silent and on the other side of the room! You will probably get your homework done so much faster! Agendas or notebooks where you can write your schedule and to-do list for the day or the week are also helpful! You can time block out times between classes to do homework or join a club meeting. Do not overdo it though and burn yourself out. Try and find at least one day/night a week to hang out with friends, family, S.O., or have a self-care night.

Question 3: How to find a good roommate?

First, you have to make a good friendship with someone you trust. How to do that is by either joining clubs, a sport, an on-campus job, or make connections with students in your classes. I know this sounds intimidating, but how I made a couple of friends during Freshman year was when I saw someone that seemed nice from one of my classes, at the dining hall I asked if I could sit with them! Then, a few of their friends joined and I made a good friend group from that Freshman year. One of them ended up becoming my roommate too!

Question 4: Do you have any dating advice during COVID?

I have been in a long-term relationship during COVID. I know we try to video chat more and do a lot of outdoor activities. With it being so cold out in New England the past couple of months, we do a lot of at-home movie dates as well. I have personally not tried to start a new relationship during COVID, because my boyfriend and I were already dating. However, some of my friends who have tried dating have said they do a lot of video chats with someone before they do outdoor dining or something, to play it on the safe side.

Question 5: How to find a good internship?

Do lots of researching and networking! Thankfully, I got an internship at a company I wanted to get an internship at since sophomore year! However, that does not mean that is the only internship I applied for. I spent a few weeks in the summer researching and applying to many internships and having a couple of interviews. Having a LinkedIn, digital portfolio, and a professional-looking resume definitely helped. Some sites that helped my search were LinkedIn, Chegg Internships, and just going straight to the company’s websites that you are interested in working for. Also, networking while you are early in your college career helps! Joining Her Campus at Lasell and networking with people at Her Campus HQ helped me get my internship tremendously!
