Spotted!: Patterned Shirts and Woolly Jumpers

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lancaster chapter.

This week on the Lancaster University campus, you have been loving patterned shirt collars poking out from your colourful knitwear. I woke up this morning and put the trend on without even realising; it’s clearly in our minds! You can easily work this look without spending much money. After the white shirts/plaid shirts/striped shirts being all over the shops for the last few years, by now we’ve all got a few. Knitwear is a winter must-have and I’m sure our collections and now well built up! Easy as anything to pop the shirts on underneath your sweaters, button them up for office chic or keep the top couple of buttons undone for a more relaxed look. Thankfully, this year has seen bright candy coloured knitwear storming the shelves; put monochrome shirts underneath neon knits, and save your greys and blacks for louder, colourful shirts.

I’ve always been a big fan of mega jewels and am so glad they’ve been such a success this year. Put one underneath your shirt collar and keep it neat over your jumper. I would recommend that your necklace matches your jumper or shirt, otherwise it starts to look a bit chaotic. Team the top half with some plain skinny jeans; black or dark blue and you’ll have that smart/casual thing sorted!

Cat Sturman, a Psychology student at Lancaster, loves this trend too but decided to pair her navy knitwear (her favourite colour) over a vintage, china print dress.

Here at HerCampus, we asked Cat the following questions…

What is your daily fashion rule? I always like to look glam. Every day is catwalk, who knows who you’ll bump into? I always say, what’s the point in having nice clothes if you aren’t going to wear them?

If you had to save one item from your wardrobe in a fire, what would it be? My vintage fur coat…best charity shop find ever!

Jeans or skirts? Skirts, but I love a Zara jodhpur!

As for me, I’m keeping the shirts and jumpers look simple today in black and grey. I love the large check pattern all over my silk shirt (£18 in the Topshop sale!), but I’m not sure if the pattern is slightly too loud for me to wear on its own. I love it teamed with this speckled Zara kids jumper though.

I can’t wait to keep spotting you all over campus and see what’s trending. Have a great week!
