The Party Edit: The Dresses To Wear This Christmas

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lancaster chapter.

The party season is finally here and it is now probably the time to get up and go find the perfect dress for your occasion, before everything’s gone and you end up wearing last year’s biggest mistake! This year, you won’t even need to leave the comfort of your bed because I’ve got the top 4 party dress trends that will suit any style and budget. Plus, each style is worn by fashion icons such as Michelle Keegan, Nicole Scherzinger, Kate Upton and even Cara Delevingne!

Fur

Personally, I just can’t get enough of fur. So much so that when I saw these pieces, I completely fell in love and now I think I need to cut up my bank card before I buy them all. Fur is such a statement for A/W, and all these dresses need are a pair of ‘barely there’ heels and a slogan clutch and you’re ready to hit that Christmas party of yours!

(Topshop Faux Fur Hem Shift                                       (Missguided Chloete Crepe Fluffy Fur Trim                                                                                                                                                                                                      Dress in Cream £55)                             Strappy Swing Dress Blush £29.99)

Velvet

Like me, you might feel super uncomfortable that velvet is the next big thing since pleather, but nevertheless, if this fashion trend needs to be done, it’s got to be done well! A velvet dress is definitely a must-have now this cold weather has set in, and this lux texture has ‘Christmas party’ written all over it. When you’re choosing that velvet number, remember to go for a classic bodycon style and keep accessories at a minimal to create that winning ensemble.

Motel Rocks Kim Twist Bodycon Dress  in Lilac Velvet £45            Missguided Masumi Velvet Paisley £19.99

 Sequins

It wouldn’t be the party season without some sequins and it’s safe to say that I haven’t yet seen a sequin piece that I don’t like. You can dress up like a complete queen and glitter like a disco ball all night long! Sequins are perfect for that NYE party; throw on a fur coat and your highest of high heels and you’re sure to be the belle of the ball.

(Lipsy Michelle Keegan Sequin                           (ASOS RED CARPET Premium mini                                                                                                                                                                                          Bandeau Dress £75)                                                      Sequin Dress £95)

Oxblood

Just throw that LBD out now because oxblood is the new black. Let’s face it, who doesn’t want to wear a mulled wine coloured dress?! So, go grunge and revamp this year’s party look, whether you want to go all out or stay classy and simple, this is the colour for you; if Blake Lively’s wearing it, so are we! You can thank me later.
