National Peanut Butter Day: 3 Health Benefits And 3 Must Try Recipes

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lancaster chapter.

Now anyone who knows me will know that I am obsessed with peanut butter, therefore of course I was going to jump at the chance to write an article for National Peanut Butter Day (24th January).

Many people wrongly perceive that peanut butter is really unhealthy, now whilst I wouldn’t suggest eating a whole jar of it at once, these 5 benefits will give you permission to enjoy some and not feel guilty.

1. It’s full of healthy fat:

Peanut butter, especially natural peanut butter that contains just nuts, contains lots of monounsaturated fats which help to lower your risk of heart disease.

2. It contains protein:

This means it makes a great pre or post workout snack as it will help you refuel. It also contains fibre therefore it’s a great appetite suppressant.

3. It contains lots of vitamins and minerals:

Peanut butter contains zinc, potassium, magnesium and vitamin E which all help to reduce high blood pressure and the risk of strokes and heart disease. Who needs a multivitamin now?

And for a little bit of indulgence, just for today, here are my top 3 peanut butter recipes:

1. Reece’s pieces peanut butter cookies

2. Peanut butter jelly bars

3. Peanut Butter Milkshake
