Last-Minute Halloween Inspiration

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lancaster chapter.

Just one day away from the most haunting day of the year: Halloween! Here in the UK, Halloween is a massive festival. I wouldn’t say it’s necessary ‘celebrated’ in terms of its pagan origins, but it is certainly enjoyed. It’s also a highlight of the university year, meaning parties, fancy dress, pumpkin decorations everywhere and spooky makeup. However, if you’re anything like us, you’ve probably left thinking about what to go as until now, the day before. So here we are to help, with some inspiration of outfits and makeup. Whether it’s scary, down-right frightening, or cutesy, we have got your back!

1.     Queen of Hearts

My flatmate decided weeks ago to go as Alice in Wonderland and so thought, who better to chop her head off than me as the Queen of Hearts. Complete with mini fake axe, a set of cards and heart eyes and lips, my outfit is sorted. It’s easily done with some fake blood, eyeshadow such as Urban Decay’s Naked Heat, and a black or red dress. Curl your hair, spray it red; anything just to channel Hele Bonham-Carter in the Alice in Wonderland film.

2.     Devil Queen

Twist your hair into space buns but create a cone rather than the traditional bun, and spray them red. Build up a really dark eyes using black, purple and red eyeshadow both on your lid and under-eyes, smudge it out for an even more horrifying effect. Dark red lipstick, and a trickle of fake blood flowing from your bottom lip and you’re set!

3.     Fortune Teller

Is it just me who finds fortune tellers particularly creepy? Channel that and wear some freaky white contacts. Decorate your T-zone with white shapes like moons and stars, and add plenty of glitter to your under-eyes to create that magical yet sad-and-never-content vibe. Metallic lipstick and a beaded headband finish the look.

4.     Butterfly Beauty

Pick up some paper/plastic butterflies in various sizes from a craft store, and attach them to your hair, shoulders and outfit. Create a natural makeup look with a nude lip, but then elevate it with pink and orangey smudged eyes, and an eyelid of pure solid metallic shine. Golf-leaf like glitter in the corners of your eyes and on your cheekbones, eyebrow bone and collar bone with catch the light beautifully. And simple white slip dress with keep the look light and have that airy-fairy look a butterfly itself has.

5.     Egyptian Goddess

If you’re feeling all out, find a crown or tiara to adore yourself with as well as a gold robe or shawl. Don a natural makeup look, then add plenty of bronzer ad highlighter for that sun-kissed Arabian glow. Fake eyelashes, and contacts boost a sultry smoky eye and dark grey metallic lip. Paint on hieroglyphics down your nose, on your forehead and down your cheeks to get that, I-just-left-the-pyramid look.

So there you have it, five makeup and outfit ideas to wet your appetite and inspire you this Halloween! Whatever you get up to, stay safe and enjoy yourself.
