Lancaster’s loving…
Big coats, statement metallics and tartan scarves!

We seem to be seeing the new year in with an explosion of trends louder than the fireworks you winced at on New Year’s Eve. Only, you won’t be wincing at these trends, that’s for sure.

These girls really know how to pull off tricky styles…

Everyone needs an injection of colour and warmth at this time of year when we are awkwardly in-between-seasons, and Shannon demonstrates how to do just that. Also reminding us that we all need a big bright coat in our lives right now. Shannon teams her pretty pink coat with matching dolly shoes and green tights. She looks so effortlessly cool, and her eye-catching coat is wardrobe-friendly and versatile. Shannon’s clashing green tights add a pop of colour and sophistication; who knew this look could work so well?

What’s more, this cute outfit has been featured so often on the 2014 catwalk; mixed prints and clashing colours, big coats and bright lips; Shannon nails all of these trends!

Brights aside, it’s hard to beat a classic black and silver number, and I believe no one rocks the metallic trend like my housemates Amy and Alice! Amy’s metallic skirt looks gorgeous teamed with black tights for a classy look, whilst Alice’s silver dress screams ‘look at me now’. Silver really is the colour of 2014 and if you haven’t already, go invest in some silver this month – it’s ‘fashion gold’! Next up, I want to talk to you about my fabulous style steals, courtesy of my co-columnist Floss’ urgency in getting us all down to the sales – particularly to Topshop. Being the bargain hunter that I am, I flew immediately down to Topshop and picked up some gems.

Gem number one is in the form of this gorgeous pair of pink velvet shorts; velvet is becoming a huge hit for 2014 and you’re already missing out if you haven’t got your hands on some yet!

I can’t get over how perfect these shorts are. They can be worn in winter with thick tights and a fur coat, or in the summer with wedges and a cute crop.  Gem number two is this stunning pair of bright red shoes! Normally, I don’t go for kitten heels but these shoes are to die for, and at only £10, you can’t got wrong! I’m going to wear them with skinnies and a blazer for my next shopping trip.

Enough about myself, I want to talk about the gorgeous Polly and Jas. Lancaster university is a tartan-peppered environment at the minute and it suits everyone

Jas’ classic tartan scarf and denim jacket is a winning combination. The versatile red tartan pumps personality into her image and fends off the chill. Polly looks smart and casual in her black attire, and the beautiful green tartan scarf brings her whole outfit alive.

Have you caught the tartan bug yet? I know I have.
