Hungry for Halloween?

Halloween is right behind the corner and, if you are anything like me, you will be busy preparing decorations, your costume and even (if you are super organised) your food! You may not be as excited about Halloween as I am, but here are two fool proof recipes to get your flat (or house) into the “spooky Halloween spirit”.

  1. Bugs on a Cobweb

These simple cupcakes are all about creativity. The general cupcake recipe is super easy so if you have a bit more time on your hands (or more likely trying to do anything other than write that  overdue essay) then read on.

Ingredients

40g Cocoa Powder

5 tbsp. Boiling Water

175g Softened Unsalted Butter

160g Caster Sugar

3 Eggs

115g Self-Raising Flour

1 tsp. Baking Powder

Topping

24 White Chocolate Buttons

Chocolate Hundreds and Thousands

100g Milk Chocolate

50ml Double Cream

Method

1.      Preheat the oven to 180°C then put all the cake ingredients in a bowl and whisk it together until smooth!

2.      Grease 12 medium sized cupcake moulds, fill them ¾ full and place in the preheated oven. Leave to cook for 10 minutes.

3.      While the cakes are cooking, melt the milk chocolate in an ovenproof bowl in the microwave for 1 and a half minutes.

4.      Remove from the microwave and gently pour the double cream into the chocolate while mixing with a spoon.

5.      Remove the cakes from the oven and leave both components to cool.

6.      Now the fun part: once the chocolate ganache has thickened, use a spoon to spread on top of the cupcakes and sprinkle with the hundreds and thousands to give the hairy bug effect.

7.      Dot each of the chocolate buttons with a blob of ganache and place 2 on each cupcake.

8.      Draw a cobweb with the ganache on your desired plate. You can do this by piping out of a sandwich bag with the corner cut off it.

 

  1. Mummy Hotdogs

You can do so much with food this Halloween like these yummy mummy hotdogs!

Ingredients

 

Frankfurter sausages

Ready made puff pastry

 

You don’t even need a “Method” section for this: all I did was slice a Frankfurter to make arms and legs. I then wrapped it up in strips of puffed pastry, cooked them in the oven and voilà! Make the most of this season:  Happy Halloween!
