For me, January is detox month, and what better way to start than heading back to some classic, yet essential beauty basics? These little wonders are also great for students on a budget.

1. Johnson’s Baby Oil

This is without a doubt the best all round body moisturiser, and it’s not just for babies! When applied onto wet skin, it locks up to 10 times more moisture than any other moisturiser would on dry skin. This is particularly important during these cold winter months, when our naturally produced oils are stripped from the skin. I recommend applying it straight after a shower or bath, and leaving it to sink into the skin for a few minutes for maximum hydration. With the help of Johnson’s baby oil, skin is left feeling as soft as a baby’s bottom!

2. Savlon Skin Healing Cream

This is an unexpected beauty miracle! Like many people, I get extremely dry skin on my face in the winter. Applying a thin layer of Savlon to problem areas in the morning and evening has helped enormously in tackling dryness. Skin feels less irritated and, unlike with the majority of face moisturisers, the antiseptic quality keeps spots at bay.

3. Simple Facial Wipes

Removing make-up at the end of the day is the most fundamental beauty rule, and these simple wipes are the best way to do just that! They are very gentle on sensitive skin, ensuring skin is not left red and itchy in places. This is particularly important during winter as irritable skin can lead to scratching, and constantly touching your face, causing dry and blemished skin. Simple wipes are 100% oil and alcohol free, and contain no perfume or dyes, making them the most natural and simple wipes out there! These wipes are especially good for students on a budget as they are frequently on offer (2 for ÂŁ4) in stores such as Superdrug or Boots.

4. Vaseline

Lips are very vulnerable in the winter months, meaning they require plenty of beauty attention. I often suffer from dry, chapped lips and have found that I need to apply a generous layer of lip balm every time I go outside. Vaseline is perfect for this! Armour up your lips with this super moisturising, soothing balm now available in cocoa butter, Aloe Vera and rose and almond oil. It’s lip perfection in a cute, pocket-sized tin.

5. Herbal Essences Shampoo & Conditioner

Let’s face it, every day in winter is a bad hair day. The wind and the rain are enough to cause havoc with any goddess-like tresses. But behold, Herbal Essences shampoo and conditioner are a winning combination even in the fiercest of weathers. With a wide range to choose from, you are sure to find the perfect match, not to mention, you’ll be smelling completely luscious all day! Keep it classic with Herbal Essences – there’s no extra fuss or unnecessary ingredients contaminating your hair. This is a  fool proof combination to perfect hair!
