The 56th Grammy Awards: Best Dressed

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lancaster chapter.

The party season may be over, but award season is undoubtedly in full swing. As we saw Hannah Brady bring us some of the best and some of the questionable dresses from the Golden Globes, our attention is now turned to the Grammys, and to which talented musician stole the show for us.

Beyoncé

As Beyoncé sauntered down the red carpet, every inch of her reminded us why she was honoured with the title of Queen Bey. Not to mention, this was before we watched the show stopping, jaw dropping power couple do their thing on stage. Instead, she stole our attention with this Michael Costello dress, which invited us to admire her toned physique through the exposed areas, due to the sheer fabric and low back that hugged those famous curves. This was done tastefully and innocently, with the white lace embroidered detail, leaving us not to even question why Beyoncé should be number one in the best dressed category.

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift was a close contender for the top spot when she shimmered onto the red carpet in her glistening, gold Gucci dress, with a silver mesh overlay which helped to flatter her petite figure. This number expels any connotations of being tacky through the use of her simple pony tail, and how she kept her accessories at a minimal – this nominated singer does Gucci justice.

Katy Perry

Credit goes to Katy Perry for her creativity with this choice of gown, as we can determine her passion as a musician through the embroidered music notes, which is of course very fitting for this event. As the copious amount of sheer fabric and her ballerina bun could be quite questionable, the singer managers to execute this fairy tale dress as she flows elegantly through the crowds, ready to grace the media with this dreamy Valentino dress.

Rita Ora

Let’s discuss Rita Ora’s choice of dress. Now, she clearly got the memo to allow her dress to glisten and shimmer for the 56th Grammy award ceremony, but do we think that she got it completely wrong? Personally, I do. This green, metallic Lanvin dress has potential, but the material hung in all the wrong places, highlighting everything but the singer’s slim figure. Dare I even say that as a consequence, this dress makes her look slightly, frumpy?

Pharrell

Last but not so least, we have to assess Pharrell’s choice of hat. Now, where to even start? As Pharrell effortlessly stepped out onto the red carpet, all eyes were on him. Cue the questions. What is that hat? This oversized hat that is shaped in a way high- street shops have never seen, we assumed that this hat would arouse questions, confusion and dislike, whilst in actual fact, it was welcomed to amusement and awe. Maybe it was because it was worn by the multi- nominated singer, or maybe it was because it wasn’t teamed with the conventional suit and tire attire? Who knows, but one thing is for sure – we love it!
