5 Reasons Why ‘She-Ra and The Princesses of Power’ is a Gift to Television

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lancaster chapter.

*MILD SPOILER WARNING*

Now that the final season of She-Ra and The Princesses of Power has been released, it’s time to recount all the reasons why, if you haven’t already, you need to watch this show! (Or even just re-watch it)

A not-just-for-kids reboot of the 1980s series, She-Ra and The Princesses of Power has been credited as not only being both enjoyable and complex, but also filled with representation wherever you look.

More than just a magical girl fantasy? It certainly is.

Representation

As was established before, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power is extremely successful in its efforts to be a show of high representation. From a focus on powerful women, to a showing a range of gender, sexuality and race, She-Ra is a rare gem in the world of television.

The Cast and Crew-Ra

The team spirit and notion of friendship from the creators of the show comes through spectacularly on screen. The Crew-Ra not only worked hard, but enjoyed the making of the show, too, and you can really tell. You may also recognise some notable voices within show, from AJ Michalka as Catra (anyone remember Aly & AJ?), to Marcus Scribner as Bow (Black-ish), to Sandra Oh as Castaspella (Grey’s Anatomy, Killing Eve).

Comedy

Although it is an angst-filled and emotional show at points, it is still filled with a lot of comedic moments. Hilarious characters such as Sea Hawk and (SPOILERS) Wrong Hordak fill the episodes with fun and a lot of much needed laughs.

The Soundtrack

Undoubtedly, an action packed show needs a soundtrack to match. This is exactly what She-Ra achieves. From the motivational opening theme song to the dramatic transformation sequence song, the soundtrack for She-Ra (by Sunna Wehrmeijer) is everything you could want. See above for AJ Michalka’s (Catra) rendition of the opening theme ‘Warriors’.

The Plot

Of course, the overall strength of She-Ra is the plot. Filled with characters arcs, redemptions, plot twists and satisfying finales, the plot of She-Ra will keep you gripped and clicking the ‘Next Episode’ button. What could happen if one day you stumble across a magical sword in the woods? Guess you’ll just have to watch to find out.
