Minya, Queen of Stories: Our Dutch Treat Son-in-Law

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lafayette chapter.

This is a story written by my Grandmom, Minya Yudenfriend. Her life philosophy was “write it down.” She constantly told the stories of the people she loved, she put her heart and life into every word and I’m sharing them to carry on her legacy and to tell her stories forever.

Our Dutch Treat Son-in-Law

One of the happiest moments in a mother’s life is when her daughter marries the right man.  When she marries a warm, sweet and charming man. That man is Arlin Green. Arlin knows how  to fix things around the house and hang pictures just perfectly. He has taken care of us – his in-laws – with great love and compassion. He rescued us during a snowstorm, taking us from a cold  house with no power to a nice warm home with a generator. When he comes to visit us and has  dinner with us, he is the first one to clear the table and wash the dishes. These are just the little  things. But, our daughter’s husband can do so much more. He can sing, serenading our daughter  in song. He can also sing with their daughter. Arlin can cook and it’s good! It has to be….he  once had his own restaurant.

How did this good fortune happen to us? “Dutch Treat!” Our daughter and her husband met each  other through a dating service. It was her last date and his first date with this service. He is an  original! How did we get so lucky?

When Paula met Arlin, her girls, Brittany and Danielle, were almost eight. And, he had Alison,  seven; Sam, nearly six and Mike, two. Over the years, they did wonderful things together, like  vacations, birthday parties and holidays. After a few years Lisa came along to join the other  children. And they had a fairy tale wedding in their own home! It all happened just because two  people fell in love…..thanks to Dutch Treat!

How did we get so lucky?
