Mark Your Calendars: Lafayette’s First Annual Thrift Shop!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lafayette chapter.

Are you a broke college student looking to spice up your fall wardrobe? We’ve all been there. Always wished you could snack on cookies and cocoa while you shop? We’ve got you covered, girl. On November 14, Lafayette’s Office of Sustainability is hosting its first-ever Pop-Up Thrift Store in the Marlo Room from 12-5 pm! All items will come from donations and will be free to all students!

The Office of Sustainability needs your help in providing gently used clothing that you no longer wear! If you’ve got a tiny dorm closet overflowing with clothes you’ve forgotten existed, we’re talking to you. Donation boxes can be found in Pardee, Skillman, Farinon, and 203 RISC until November 1st!

You may ask, “Why should I even care about thrifting?” First off, you’re getting yourself a huge deal and who can resist that? Plus, thrifting isn’t just good for your wallet, it’s good for the planet. The average American throws away 81 pounds of clothes per year. That’s the same weight as four tires. Talk about major yikes. By buying clothing second-hand, you’re reducing the amount of plastic sitting in landfills, saving thousands of gallons of water, and reducing a whole lot of greenhouse gas emissions. Simply put, mother nature needs a break from fast fashion’s pollution and waste. Now, you have the chance to do something about it!

Mark your calendars and come support a great mission with some sustainable shopping at the first pop-up thrift shop of many to come! https://calendar.lafayette.edu/node/45766
