We’ve Tried It: Cal Poly Pomona Pumpkin Patch

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at La Verne chapter.

There are many things I’ve been deprived of as a child, and going to a pumpkin patch is one of them. After living eighteen years without picking an iconic orange squash, I finally went to one of the biggest pumpkin patches in the area. Cal Poly Pomona hosts their annual Pumpkin Patch throughout the month of October, and I had quite the experience with my friends last week.

The smell of caramel corn and the sound of children laughing filled the air, enhancing the feeling that autumn is finally here (even though it was a good 80 degrees that day). We walked through the entrance, ignoring the sign that told us pumpkins were $5 each, and ran straight to the multitude of pumpkins waiting to be taken pictures with. A good half hour was spent walking through the patch, looking for the perfect place to take pictures and picking up many pumpkins even though we didn’t end up buying them.

We found another photo spot that consisted of a stack of hay surrounded with fake pumpkins and squash. My friends and I decided to take your basic “family picture for the Christmas card”, intending to post it on Instagram (but not at the same time so we won’t annoy our followers).

We also found a photo cut-out that we stuck our heads through and made faces at each other, truly embracing our roles as “pumpkin heads”.

The most interesting part about our adventure was going through the corn maze. I have never been through a corn maze, so I was a little uneasy because Harry Potter taught me that bad guys hide in cornfields. Thankfully, I didn’t go through it alone and I came out alive, taking this celebratory picture right after.

Of course we couldn’t leave the patch without actual pumpkins, so we went to the Farm Store and bought mini pumpkins to decorate our dorms with. We even made friends with some kids while looking for the perfect pumpkin. Every time I look at my tiny pumpkin, I am reminded of how much fun I had going there with my friends. 10/10 would recommend going to the CPP Pumpkin Patch, whether it’s to fulfill your white girl needs or fulfill your childhood dreams.

Much like the Disney character, I don't let society define who I am & I always do what I think is right. Communications/Public Relations major, Class of 2019 at the University of La Verne. I aspire to learn from the best to better serve the world we live in by creating clear messages for the public.
