Holiday Snack: Christmas Chex

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at La Verne chapter.

The holidays are in full swing and you know what that means… FOOD! Most of the time, my family and friend gatherings are centered around food and that requires me to make something. Over the years, I have learned how to bring simple yet delicious dishes or snacks because I am not a huge fan of cooking. One go-to-recipe is Christmas Chex Mix!

What you will need:

  • 2 boxes of Chex Mix cereal (choose different flavors for more of a variety)
  • One bag of M&M’s
  • Candy melts
  • Sprinkles
  • 2 baking sheets
  • parchment paper
  • large bowl

Optional: add in pretzels, dried fruit, crushed candy canes, marshmallows, bits of cookies, or other snacks to add variety to your snack mix. For Thanksgiving, try using orange, yellow, and brown M&M’s. For a Christmas vibe try using green and red M&M’s only. Any of the “Christmas” parts of this snack mix can be substituted out for other colors/snacks to accomidate any holiday.

What to do:

  • Combine your Chex Mix (and any other snacks)  in the large bowl.
  • Melt the candy melts and drizzle it over the snack mix in small portions. Immediately after this, add the sprinkles so that when the candy melts cool off they hold onto the sprinkles.
  • Mix it all together
  • Repeat until the entire snack mix is coated
  • Spread the snack mix evenly on the baking sheets to cool and set
  • Share & enjoy!
