8 of the most iconic moments from “The Devil Wears Prada”

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at La Verne chapter.

I’m pretty sure that the most iconic fashion movie is The Devil Wears Prada. It was released in 2006 (I can’t believe that it’s already been 12 years!) and was based on the 2003 novel, “The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger.

Spoiler alert: the following is a brief summary of the movie.

Andrea (Andy) Sachs has just graduated from college and goes to New York with her dream of becoming a journalist.

Although not particularly interested in the fashion industry, by some miracle, she was able to get an interview and land a co-assistant position (A.K.A. the job a million girls would kill for) at a well-known fashion magazine called “Runway.”

Every worker at the “Runway” is fashionable, skinny, and incredibly mean, and her boss, Miranda Priestly, is a tyrant and the worst person ever. Many previous assistants quit the job because of Miranda. Still Andy keeps working patiently for Miranda with the goal of getting her dream job.

So I will introduce the most iconic moments of this movie!!

1. When Miranda came to the office earlier than everyone expected, it caused big panic and chaos.

It is the memorable first scene of Miranda Priestly.

2. When Andy did an interview with Miranda, she understood about “Miranda Priestly.”

Miranda crushed everything that Andy was proud of.

3. When Andy starts to work at fashion magazine, everything is confusing for her.

Although she got a job that “a million girls would kill for,” it is like hell.

4. The “Stuff”

Miranda becomes extremely angry when Andy, unknowingly, refers to fashion designs and pieces as just “stuff.”

5. Andy’s transformation

Finally, Andy realizes that she needs to change. She become sophisticated and gorgeous.

6. When Miranda called Andy’s name correctly.

Miranda had kept calling Andy “Emily” which is name of another co-assistant, but finally she called “Andrea”. This is evidence that Miranda has accepted Andy.

7. “Everybody wants to be us.”

Although Andy had started to respect how Miranda works, she gets a feeling that something’s wrong after she saw how Miranda sacrificed her family and coworkers.

8. When Andy throws away her job phone, and says good bye to Miranda.

Finally, she realizes that she does not want to be like Miranda. She decides to quit her job.
