I don’t know what I want to be when I grow up.

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at La Salle chapter.

If you’re reading this and you know exactly what job you want after college, this isn’t for you. But if you have zero clues what you want to do, and you wonder what you are going to do after college then this is perfect for you.

Like many students in college, I have no clue what I want to do after college. All I ever did was play sports, so I do not know the other interest I have besides softball. I know I am not the only person who feels this way, whether you were an athlete or not and let me tell you… it is okay.

As a senior in college, you are 22 or 23 or even younger; you are not supposed to know what you want to do with the REST of your life. You probably feel like everyone around you knows what they want to do, and your stuck playing catches up… but if you think about it, those people could think they want to do a specific job and end up hating it.

That is where it becomes favorable for us unknowns. The best part of all of this is after graduation is testing out all the different things we could want to do. We are not committed to doing anything, so you can take any path you want. Then by taking those different routes, you will find out what you like and what you don’t like.

Growing up is scary, especially when you do not know where to start, but when you do take that first step and figure out what you like, it will be more rewarding.  Think of all the different experiences you get to have compared to someone that decided their fate for the rest of their life freshman year.

Remember you do not have to know what you want to do for the next 40 years when you are only in your 20’s.  It will be alright because you’re not the only one who is feeling that way.
