As summer comes to an end, one must prepare themselves for many things, including weather. We start pulling out sweaters and scarves from storage bins or we have coffee outside and watch falling leaves to put us in the spirit. However, one of the most important things we over look in the changing seasons is our skin!

Our skin endures the sharp winds and dry coldness. It stays up with us when we sleep late or when we pull all-nighters. I know that I am not the only who wakes up, after going to sleep at 3am, with our skin looking dull and grey. Just as we take care of our bodies from the inside, we have to do the same to the outside. I am all for skincare routines but sometimes there is no time to go through twelve or fifteen steps. Between running from class, to clubs, to work, and the countless other things that college students have to do, sometimes it’s hard to incorporate something so great into our tightly packed schedules.

Below, I have listed easy steps in my skin care routine. I have an oily skin type so some of the things I use may not work for those with dry or combination skin. It takes me usually between 5 to 10 minutes to go through this whole routine.

  • I use an oil based or cream cleanser to remove all the impurities from overnight or from a day of wearing makeup.
    • My favorite product to use is Ponds: Cold Cream Cleanser. You rub this on and wipe it off with a hot towel.
    • $8

Next, I use Neutrogena’s Pink Grapefruit Oil Free Acne Wash.

    • I have been using this product for a month and it has been very good to my skin. It gives your skin vitamin C and leaves it refreshed.
    • $10-12
  • I follow up with Skin Food Peach Sake Toner
    • $12-15
    • This product eliminates excess shine and minimizes sebum production from your pores. It also smells great! I like to pour a little into my palm and pat it into my skin.
  • After I use ELF’s Hydrating Coconut Mist
    • It adds more moisture to my skin before I put on a moisturizer. I also like to pat it in after I spray it on my face.
    • $6
  • For the last step I alternate every other day between ELF’s Oil Control Liquid Lotion with Tea Tree Oiland Aveeno daily Moisturizing lotion with SPF 15
  • $8
  • $13-17
    • $10-11

You don’t want to over dry your oily skin because that causes your skin to produce more sebum and oil production. On sunny days I like to use Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost Water Gel Lotionwith an SPF of 30.

I also like to pamper my skin with sheet face masks, a peel of mask, or a clay mask. I use masks aimed at the problems my skin has and I recommend using masks aimed at your skin type. For example, there are hydrating, purifying, cleansing, polishing, elasticity, and nutritional masks. They can be used every other day, or you can even sleep with a sheet mask on.  I know everyone says this but drink plenty of water. It makes your skin look bouncy and elastic like which means less wrinkles. Its so important to make sure our skin is hydrated in the fall because it will dry out and suffer from the changing temperature. Our skin, like leaves in the fall, will crumple up and change colors. The skin we live in is the skin we will continue to live in for the rest of our lives. Let us cherish it and respect it.
