Are you struggling to find a new movie to watch and are hesitant to try searching in fear of wasting your time? I won’t lie; movies can be hit or miss, especially new releases. I can successfully say that your movie night, whether it be with the girls or enjoying some “me” time, is in good hands. The Sweetest Thing will scream early 2000s girly teen movie sleepover with an exaggerated portrayal of frivolous women in society. The movie introduces the main character Christina (Cameron Diaz) the “it” girl who plays with the hearts of men and is allergic to the concept of commitment. She is accompanied by her two best friends, Courtney (Christina Applegate) and Jane (Selma Blair), who get caught up in Christina’s adventures and hit the clubs. The central theme focuses on drama, sex, femininity, and the extent to which Christina goes to pursue love. Christina is seen eating a sweet in a scene which not only hints at the title but is a clear representation of sensual desire. This movie speaks to me in a lot of ways, one being the dynamic between the characters and their crazy interactions that take place all throughout. One important concept is the prominent friendship element between Christina and Courtney. These two have endured loads of silly adventure, tragedy, and fun which ensured that life isn’t just all about finding romantic love! The movie eventually dives deeper into Christina’s intentions and reasonings for her distasteful behavior, which will lead you to sympathize with her. The plot is considerably predictable, but how can you have a rom com without a sense of comfortability? This movie is full of adventure and keeps the audience consistently engaged and entertained. There are plenty of embarrassing and chaotic moments that will leave you wondering “but why?” The Sweetest Thing is guaranteed to satisfy your late-night sugar cravings!
