Super Woman: Lovee Smith-Griffin

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kutztown chapter.

“We were raised under grey skies

But you’ll never hear us complain

So I found a thousand Springtimes in her eyes

And I learned to play games in the rain” – JP Cooper

Lovee Smith-Griffin, my ultimate Super Woman. Everything I am today is because of her and all that I hope to be is for her.  For 21 years and counting she has put herself second to make sure that my sisters and I had the proper tools to grow into strong women. The odds were not always in her favor when it came to raising us, there were moments of struggle and probably more sacrifices than I’m aware of.  However, there were laughs, smiles and glimpses of joy that dull the negatives in comparison.

My mom has a very caring spirit with confidence to match, no one works harder than her. By watching how she carries herself it has planted the seed of an Independent woman in all 4 of her children. She raised us on her own for a very long time and I have always been certain that I wanted to step with the amount of strength and power that she does day after day. Against all obstacles, she is doing the best job possible as a mother as well as taking the time to do what makes her happy. Starting her own business and following her dreams- setting an example for us that shows you can accomplish anything you are willing to work for.

What can you possibly give the person that has given you everything? My mom has always gone above and beyond for my sisters and I, and there is nothing I can say, or do, that would show how eternally grateful I am to have her as a mother.  For all of these reasons and more, my mom shatters my definition of a Super Woman.

I love you with everything in me, and I live everyday with the goal of making you proud.

A SuperWoman, an ordinary woman who does extraordinary things. I have had the privilege of meeting countless people who fit this description. Women who have overcome so much. They bleed resilience and strength and use this power to help others. I believe that these people deserve to be celebrated and that’s what this series is for. To acknowledge incredible women who do inspiring things.
